Princeton's Omenn-Darling Bioengineering Institute (ODBI) was recently launched to ignite new directions in research, education, and innovation at the intersection of Engineering and the Life Sciences. ODBI is evolving rapidly, including launching various programs and building physical and programmatic infrastructure. ODBI is seeking a facility director to help run a new cellular engineering facility. The Cellular Engineering Facility Director will be hired at the rank of Professional Specialist.
The shared facility will be located in a custom-designed laboratory within ODBI's new state-of-the-art building, which also includes biofabrication, microscopy, and teaching labs, designed to revolutionize the design-build-test cycle in bioengineering by accelerating the construction of living cells as devices. The Cell Engineering Facility Director will train and assist student and postdoc users of the facility, helping them to design experiments involving the generation and maintenance of mammalian cell lines, cryogenic preservation, cell sorting and quality control, and CRISPR gene editing and transgenic approaches.
The director will facilitate scheduling machine use and also connect with vendors to ensure that equipment is well-maintained. The Cell Engineering Facility Director will play a central role in the ODBI community and research program. This includes the opportunity to participate in teaching activities for students in the new Bioengineering PhD program or undergraduate members of the iGEM Synthetic Biology team. The facility director will also have opportunities to synergize with efforts in combinatorial DNA synthesis, automated/high throughput approaches, and adjacent activities in microbial cell engineering (e.g., yeast, bacteria).
Minimum Qualifications: Candidates should have a PhD in a related field; Candidates without a PhD may be considered if they have an advanced or professional degree in the designated field, and significant (multiple years) hands-on experience with advanced cellular engineering applications.
Applications are accepted online at this link and must include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and the names and contact information of three references (who will not be contacted without permission). This position is subject to the University's background check policy. The work location for this position is in-person on campus at Princeton University.
