Description
Job Summary: According to established procedures, cleans and services building areas. Moves furniture, equipment, and supplies in and around hospital departments, and performs a variety of housekeeping duties to maintain the hospital in a neat, orderly, and sanitary condition.
Job Responsibilities:
1. Selects cleaning materials and supplies and prepares solutions according to procedure. Loads service carts and transports to work areas.
2. Cleans assigned areas by washing furniture, tile, fixtures, and equipment with germicidal cleaning solutions.
3. Cleans assigned areas by washing walls, doors, door frames, ceilings, ventilators, patient televisions and windows; strips and apply floor finish and polishes floors.
4. Sweep and mop floor areas, vacuum carpets, spot clean carpets, shampoo carpets using appropriate solutions, and arrange furniture and equipment in an orderly fashion after cleaning assigned area.
5. Request cleaning supplies and equipment as needed.
6. Operates various types of cleaning equipment both mechanical and electrical, such as buffers, wringers, scrubbers and vacuums.
7. Clean equipment and notify supervisor of equipment needing repair. Reports safety hazards to supervisor.
8. Return unused supplies to janitorial closet, clean carts and equipment after use to ensure all items are replaced in orderly manner.
9. May climb ladder to hang cubicle drapes, window drapes, or reach high areas for other cleaning purposes.
10.May collect waste from all areas of hospital, sanitizes all garbage cans.
11.May collect or distribute soiled or clean linen.
12.May collect hazardous waste as established by Infection Control Committee. Transports infectious waste in a special waste container to the waste garage for disposal.
13.Arranges furniture for meetings, workshops and community affairs.

Requirements
Education: High School education. Must be able to read and follow directions.
Physical Requirements: Must be able to move some furniture, operate various types of cleaning equipment, be able to climb ladder and lift clean and soiled linen. Must be able to lift at least 60 pounds.
Experience Requirement: Must have experience in cleaning hospitals, schools, hotels, nursing homes, or other public facilities.
