GENERIC POSTING - Major Functions:
Assist special education student requiring a personal care assistant for more involved physical care, structured instructional support, or heightened behavioral needs as indicated on the student's IEP.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assist specific special education student(s) in physical tasks that may include
oputting on and taking off of clothing
oprovide high amount of support to the student maneuvering through the building
oassist the student in arrival to and dismissal from school
ogoing to the restroom - will include changing diapers and/or cleaning student
olifting student in wheelchair
ofeeding student
oprovide suctioning, tube feeding, and/or catheterization for student
omanaging more significant behavior, including the need for CPI
oProvide accommodations needed for student to participate
• Manage student behavior to provide productive learning opportunities for all students
oMaintain Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification and implement those skills with fidelity
oMaintain Behavior Modification Plans (BMPs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs)
• Direct activities for designated student(s) with disabilities as assigned; monitor the student in lunchroom, playground activities as assigned, assist in emergency drills, assemblies, recess and field trips.
• Assist classroom teacher with other students when not directly involved with assigned student(s).
• Provide services based on student's IEP with direction from the special education teacher
• Assist teacher in the collection and organization of academic and behavioral data for student(s)
• Perform routine clerical duties such as preparation of instructional and classroom materials; make copies when necessary
• Provide support to the teacher by setting up work areas and by distributing and collecting paperwork and supplies for student(s)
• Participate in required professional development and training and apply new information learned to support students
• Actively supervise and monitor students in areas and activities that take place in the classroom, in the hallways and restrooms, during sensory breaks, and during playground activities and recess, to ensure a safe school environment
• Report concerns regarding assigned student(s) directly and expeditiously to teacher
• Demonstrate professionalism and high ethical standards; act in alignment with the Mississippi Code of Ethics
• Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities dealing with special education students as may be assigned by the supervisor
• Maintain confidentiality and privacy of all Desoto County Schools' records.
Minimum Requirements:
Qualified applicants must have minimum of at least 48 semester hours, associate degree or higher or have taken and passed the ACTWORKKEYS.
